Congratulations to the Utica Post 229 players that received all league honors.  From the Senior team there is Nick LaBella, Vincenzo Castronovo, Vito Castronovo, Myles Felton.  From the Junior team there is Jason DeJesus, Felix de Asa de la Cruz, Michael Reali.  For the complete list of players please see Legion baseball.com.

The Utica Post 229 JR Team will play in the Department of New York State American Legion Baseball Junior Tournament beginning Thursday at Delutis Field in Rome.

The team finished 11-11 overall and 10-5 in the league, which was good enough for second place in the Marines Division.  The team went 7-1 to close out the season.  In the playoffs the team went 3-2, losing to the eventual District Champions twice, both 1-0 games, with the Championship game taking 10 innings to be decided.

The 2017 Department of New York Junior American Legion Baseball Championship Tournament will be held at Delutis Field in Rome, NY from July 27th through July 29th.  The Championship Tournament will be a six (6) team pool play tournament, with champions from the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th Districts.

The District 5 American Legion Baseball Senior Championship Series is set to begin Sunday. The Champion is decided by an 8-team double elimination tournament.  Utica Post 229 finished 2nd in the Air Force Division with a 12-6 league record and 13-9 overall record.

The Tournament seeds are as follows:

Sunday July 16

Game 1:  Utica Post vs. Oriskany Post—5 pm @ Murnane Field

Game 2:  Sherrill Post vs. Ilion Post —5 pm @ Noyes Park

Game 3:  Smith Post vs. Adrean Post —1 pm @ RFA (old)

Game 4:  Whitestown Post vs. Love Post—1 pm @ SUNY POLY

The Utica Post JR team finished the season on a 7-1 run (and the one loss was in the last inning), earning the #4 seed in the playoffs.  The team will play at Oriskany HS on Saturday at 12PM vs Roberts.

The District 5 Junior American Legion Baseball Championship Series is set to begin Saturday. The Champion is decided by a 6-team double elimination tournament.

The District Champion and the runner up will advance to the Department of New York State Championship Junior Tournament (6 team double elimination tournament) to be held at Delutis Field on July 27-29.

Ben Kilian of the Utica Post 229 Senior team has been awarded a $500 scholarship from the Department of New York American Legion Baseball Committee.  The Committee awards four scholarships each year.  Each team in the State is allowed to choose one player to submit their application.  Ben graduated from Thomas R Proctor in June and will be attending Boston University in the Fall.

The Utica Post 229 Senior teams season ended abruptly at the hands of rival Smith Post.  After a back and forth game, the teams went to the 10th inning tied at 6.  Smith Post catcher Mark Minnicozi hit a game winning walk off single.  Utica ends the season with a 20-9 record.

The Utica Post 229 Junior season came to an end today in Boonville with a 13-8 loss to Roberts JR.  Utica led going into the bottom of the 6th inning but couldn’t hold on to advance.  Utica Juniors finish the season with a 12-15 record.

The Utica Post 229 Senior team defeated Sherrill Post by a 7-3 score behind a complete game performance from Parker Goldsmith (See Box score). The loss eliminated Sherrill Post.  Utica Post will play Smith Post in another elimination game Tuesday at Murnane Field at 430PM.

The Utica Post 229 Senior team dropped its playoff opener at home to Oriskany Post by a score of 7-5.  See box score.

The Utica Post 229 Junior team suffered the same fate losing to Love Post by a score of 7-3 on Saturday night.

Both teams attempt to stave off elimination on Monday. The Junior team takes on Roberts Post at 10AM at BYAA (Boonville) and the Senior team takes on Sherrill Post at 430PM at New Hartford High School.

 

The Utica Post 229 Senior team begins its quest to repeat as District 5 Champions Sunday at 11AM at Murnane against Oriskany Post.  The Senior team qualified with a 13-5 league record winning the Air Force Division.  Please see playoff preview for details.

The Utica Post 229 Junior team finished the season with a 11-7 record, earning the 5th seed in the District 5 playoffs.  The Junior team will face Love Post Saturday at 7PM at BYAA in Boonville.  Please see playoff preview for details.
