The Pasta Dinner was a huge success. Thanks to all the volunteers and donors who helped make this event possible, and to the customers who weren’t scared away by the weather! Again!
The Utica Post 229 Baseball team will hold an all you can eat pasta dinner fundraiser on Thursday February 12th from 430 to 730 PM at Utica Post 229 American Legion located at 409 Herkimer Road.
The cost for each meal is $7 (child (under 10) portions available for $4).
Meals consist of salad, bread, meatballs, all you can eat pasta, dessert, non-alcoholic beverage.
Tickets can be purchased at the door. For to go orders call 793-9377.
Ryan Crigger, a member of the Utica Post 229 Baseball team and a recent graduate of Proctor High School was awarded a scholarship from the Department of New York American Legion Baseball Committee.
The Department awards four $500 scholarships each year to members of legion baseball teams throughout the State, with one of the scholarship winners being selected for and additional $500 and advancement on to the Regionals.
Ryan will attend Mohawk Valley Community College in the Fall and will return for his final year of baseball eligibility with Utica Post 229 next summer. Congratulations Ryan on an accomplishment well deserved.
Utica Post 229 Senior team had three players named to the District 5 All League team. Those players are catcher Ryan Piccola, pitcher / first baseman Jack Santacroce, and short stop Vito Castronovo. Both Santacroce and Castronovo will be returning next season. Piccola, a freshman at Albany College of Pharmacy, led the team in hitting with a .450 batting average and 22 RBI, also finishing in the top 5 in the league in both categories. Vito led the league in total runs scored and was also in the top 5 in stolen bases and hits. Congratulations to all three players.
The Utica Post Senior team was eliminated from the District Playoffs tonight, losing to New Hartford, 9-7 in 10 innings.
Utica rallied to tie the game with 3 in the 9th inning but couldn’t overcome multiple errors en route to the loss.
On Sunday Utica fell to Ilion by a score of 6-5, with the rally in the 9th inning falling just short.
Utica finishes the season with a 21-11 overall record.
The Utica Post JR team was eliminated from the District playoffs today, losing a heartbreaker to Whitestown Post in 9 innings by a score of 7-6. Whitestown rallied to tie the game by scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Utica lost earlier in the day to top seeded William Russell Post by a score of 6-2. Utica finishes the season with an overall record of 14-10.
The District 5 American Legion Baseball Championship Series is set to begin Monday. The Champion is decided by an 8 team double elimination tournament.

The District 5 Junior American Legion Baseball Championship Tournament will begin on Saturday at BYAA in Boonville. The top 4 teams out of the 12 team league advance to the playoffs.
