Utica Post defeated Whitestown Post for the Oneida County Championship by a score of 4-3 in 9 innings.  Utica jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with consecutive hits by Mike King, Vin Gaetano, and Ryan Donovan.

Whitestown tied the game in the bottom of the 7th with an RBI ground out by Mike Sullivan.  Utica took the lead for good in the 9th on doubles by Mike Scotellaro and Vin Gaetano.

Gaetano had 2 hits and 2 RBIs, including the game winner.  Ryan Donovan also had 2 hits and an RBI.  Gary McConnell added 2 hits for Utica.

Whitestown’s Mike Sullivan and Dan Russo each had 2 hits.  MJ Hajec went the distance and took the loss for Whitestown.  Hajec had 7 strike outs and allowed only 1 walk.

On the mound for Utica, Mike King started and went 6 innings, but did not figure in the decision.  Ryan Alesandro threw 2 innings of perfect relief to earn the victory.

Congratulations to the six members of the Utica Post team that were selected to the All Star team.  Vin Gaetano, Ryan Donovan, Mike Scotellaro, Mike Obernesser, Mike King, and Justin Hall were selected for the Oneida County Blue Division All Star team.  The Oneida County All Star game will be played on Sunday August 1st at 7PM at Delutis Field.

Utica Post fell to Hudson Valley Post by a score of 8-3 today, which eliminates Utica from the NYS Championships.  Ryan Donovan took the loss on the mound, and also drove in all Utica’s runs with a bases clearing double.  That cut the lead to 5-3 but Utica would only have 3 other hits for the game.

Utica Post fell in the opening game of the states to Dryden Post by a score of 17-4.  Utica allowed 7 runs before they got to the plate on 5 hits and 2 errors, which proved to be too much to recover from.  Tom DeBernardis took the loss on the mound  Mike Scotellaro had 3 hits for Utica.  Ryan Donovan had a 2 run home run.  Utica plays Thursday at 9:30 AM in an elimination game.

Utica Post began the day having to complete a game against Ilion which was started the night before.  Only 1 inning had been completed and Utica led 6-0.  Utica then added 3 more in the top of the 2nd and never looked back defeating Ilion 11-0 in 6 innings.  Mike King went the distance on the mound.  Mike Obernesser had 3 hits and 2 RBI for Utica.

After a 2 hour break, Whitestown was up next.  This time it was Ryan Donovan’s turn to take the mound.  Donovan threw a complete game, allowing only 1 earned run, scattering 8 hits and striking out 6.  Mike Bunal had 3 hits for Whitestown.  MIke King, Ryan Donovan, Vin Gaetano, Gary McConnell, and Just Hall each had 2 hits for Utica.  Gaetano added another home run.

Then after a 25 minute break, Utica was at it again vs. Whitestown for the District V Championship.  Ryan Alesandro took the mound and started a bit shaky, walking the first batter and surrendering a home run to Mike Bunal.  Alesandro only allowed 2 hits for the rest of the game.  Utica got 2 hits from Mike King, Mike Scotellaro and  Mike Obernesser.

Utica Post heads to Newburgh to the New York State Championship Tournament for their opening round game on Wednesday at 9:30AM.

The District V losers bracket final game between Utica and Ilion was postponed because of rain.  The game was stopped in the top of the 2nd inning with Utica leading by a score of 6-0.  The game will be resumed from that point at 11AM on Sunday.  The winner of that game will play Whitestown Post for the District V championship on Sunday at 2PM. There is an if necessary game scheduled at 5PM in the event that Whitestown does not win the first game.

Utica Post topped New Hartford by a score of 12-7.  Tom DeBernardis threw a complete game to earn the win.  Utica was led by Mike Scotellaro who had 3 hits and 2 RBI including a 2 run home run.  Gary McConnell, Mike Lackey and Ryan Donovan each added 2 hits. 

Joe Carcone had 2 hits including a 2 run home run.  Joe Desens had a 3 RBI double for New Hartford.

Utica advanced to the loser bracket finals to play Ilion at 7PM on Saturday.

The Utica Post vs. New Hartford Post game will be played at 4PM on field #2 at Delutis sports complex.

The District V Tournament schedule for Saturday changes again.  The Smith Post vs Moran Post game will be played at 1PM.  Utica Post vs. New Hartford Post will be played at 3PM.  The remainder of the schedule is yet to be determined by the District V Chairman.

All games of the District V Tournament have been cancelled for Friday.  The schedule for Saturday is as follows:

9AM:  Smith vs Moran

12PM:  Utica vs. New Hartford

3PM:  Whitestown vs. Ilion

6PM:  Loser of Whitestown vs. Ilion vs. opponent to be determined
