Friday July 22

Utica Post reached the District 5 championship game for the third consecutive year, with this year being a rematch of last season.  Last season Utica Post fought through the losers bracket to defeat Whitestown twice.

This year followed the same path with Utica coming through the losers bracket with a walk off win against Roberts, a two run victory over Moran, a one run victory over Helmuth, and a walk off victory against Smith Post.  After defeating Smith Post, Whitestown was waiting as the undefeated team, only this time Whitestown proved to be too much and defeated Utica 15-3 to capture the District Championship and move on to the NYS Championship Tournament in Binghamton.

Utica Post finished the season with a 21-11 overall record.

The scoring happened early and often for both teams with Utica jumping out to a 9-4 lead. In the 5th inning Helmuth scored 4 runs to pull within 1 run at 9-8.  Neither team would score over the last 4 innings.  Ben Rolewicz shut down the Utica offense and the combination of Sal Carollo and Nick Maldanado kept Helmuth off the board for the final 4 innings.

Utica got 3 hits and an RBI from Mike Obernesser.  Justin Hall added a hit and 2 RBI while Matt Scotellaro added 2 hits and an RBI.  Ben Rolewicz had 2 hits and an RBI for Helmuth and Kinnon Nolan Finkel had a hit and 2 RBI.

Utica advances to play Smith Post Friday at 430 at Delutis Field.  The winner of that game will then play Whitestown at 8PM.  Should Whitestown lose that game, the two teams will play for the championship on Saturday at 6PM.
