The start of the 2013 season will mark the official end Coach Greg Gaeta’s tenure as the manager and head coach for Utica Post.   Coach Gaeta has been in the Utica Post 229 dugout for the past 15 seasons, spanning almost 600 games.

Mark VanDreason will take over as the Utica Post 229 Senior Team Head Coach.  Mark is a Utica Post alum; a player from 2005-2008, junior team assistant coach (2011), junior team head coach (2012).

Rick LaSalle will take over as the Utica Post 229 Junior Team Head Coach.  Rick has 27 years of coaching experience with various teams and organizations throughout the community.

Greg Gaeta will remain as the general manager of both Utica Post 229 baseball teams.

The Utica Post 229 Baseball team will hold an all you can eat pasta dinner fundraiser on Thursday February 28th from 430 to 730 PM at Utica Post 229 American Legion located at 409  Herkimer Road.

The cost for each meal is $7 (child portions available).  Meals consist of salad, bread, meatballs, all you can eat pasta, dessert, non-alcoholic beverage.

Pasta Dinner Donors 2013

Melvin Roads completed the 2 game sweep of the Utica Post 229 Junior team, winning by a score of 11-1 to clinch the NYS American Legion Baseball Championship.  The Utica Post 229 Junior team finished the season with a 17-12 overall record.

The Utica Post 229 Junior Team was beat by a score of 7-0 in game 1 of the best of 3 series against the Shrub Oak Junior team. Utica fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and simply never recovered.

Game 2 of the series is Saturday at Murnane Field at 9AM.  Game 3, if necessary, will be approximately 30 minutes after the completion of game 2.

The Junior Utica Post 229 baseball team is headed to the State Championship Series off the heels of their victory over Sidney Post.

Mike Alessandro (7-1, 2.19 ERA) was stellar, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and no walks to earn his seventh victory and 5th complete game victory of the year. Junior UP229 trailed 1- 0 going into the bottom of the 6th inning when center fielder Marcus Lilley (.373, 28 Runs, 14 Stolen Bases) lead off the inning with a bunt single.  Later in the inning Tino Tartaglia (.299, 13 RBIs) doubled to put the Junior UP team on top and they never looked back scoring 5 in the inning en route to a 6-2 final.

The Junior UP229 team will play against Shrub Oak Post 1080 for the State Title in a best of 3 game series starting Friday August 3rd at 9am at Murnane Field. The second game will be Saturday at 9am and if necessary the third game will be played immediately following game 2.

Smith Post beat Utica Post 4-2 in the loser bracket final, which advances Smith Post to the District V championship game against Whitestown.  Utica had beaten Smith on Tuesday and led 2-0 going into the 7th, but allowed 4 Smith runs on 2 hits, 2 walks, 2 errors and a hit batsman.  Utica was unable to mount any comeback.  Gary McConnell and Matt Scotellaro each had 2 hits for Utica.

Utica Post finished the season with an overall record of 18-17.

Whitestown Post defeated Utica Post by a score of 12-2, thereby advancing to the District Championship game on Friday to defend their title.  Each team managed 7 hits, Whitestown’s Mike Sullivan and Dylan Gorski each had 2 hits, while Nick Maldonado added 2 hits for Utica.  Mike Bunal got the win on the mound, striking out 3 and walking 4.

Utica Post plays Thursday at 8 PM at Murnane Field.  They play the winner of the 430 game at Murnane Field which pits Smith Post vs Helmuth Ingalls Post.

Utica Post defeated Smith Post by a score of 8-2.  Jordan Treen threw a complete game victory, scattering 11 hits, while striking out 5 along with 4 walks.  Ryan Piccola lead the way for Utica Post with a 4 for 5 day at the plate and 2 RBIs.  Connor Roth added a 2 RBI single and Dan Priore added a solo home run.  Andrew and Drew DeBlassis each had 2 hits for Smith Post.

The Utica Post 229 Junior American Legion baseball team will play the District 6 champion, Sidney Post, on Wednesday at 6PM at Murnane Field.  The winner will advance to the Junior Legion State Championship Series at Murnane Field on August 3rd & 4th.  The Junior UP229 team recently beat the New Hartford Post Junior team in the District V Championship game 11-1.

 

The Junior Utica Post 229 team is 16-10 overall with an 8-2 league record. The team is led by center fielder and leadoff man Marcus Lilley (.356, 27 runs, 13 stolen bases) , right fielder Frank Cotrupe (.370, 19 runs, 12 stolen bases, and 11 RBIs), third baseman Michael Krecidlo (.328, 7 doubles, 16 RBIs), and first baseman Tino Tartaglia (.297, 12 RBIs) . Infielder and pitcher Josh True has scored 24 runs. Catcher Joe Sullivan anchors an excellent pitching staff that includes Mike Alesandro ( 6-1, 2.80 ERA, 4 complete games), and Ryan Crigger (4-1, 2.00 ERA, 4 complete games), aided by the excellent defense of shortstop Jack Santacroce and left fielder Anthony Criscione.  The Junior Utica Post 229 baseball team has also had major contributions from outfielders Matthew VanDreason, Fred Heintz, and second baseman Anthony Calenzo.

Utica Post defeated Fort Schuyler in the opening round of the District V tournament.  Tom DeBernardis earned the victory and Nick Maldonado picked up the save in relief.  Connor Roth led Utica with 2 hits and 3 RBI, while Gary McConnell added 3 hits and an RBI. Matt Scotellaro added 2 hits and 2 RBI for Utica Post.  Justin Stevener had 3 hits for Fort Schuyler, while JT Ross and Tyler Raux added 2 each.  Utica will play Tuesday at old RFA high school against Smith Post at 430.
